Aquaporin’s business model is to partner up with selected leading system providers in various segments through narrow banding co-development & supply agreements.  This strategy will promote the development of final applications of Aquaporin’s liquid membranes together with recognised industry leaders.

The first true partnership agreement encompassing collaboration on joint product development is already in place with German-based Membrana GmbH - the world’s largest supplier of microporous membranes for medical applications like dialysis, oxygenation, and plasma separation. Membrana is also a major supplier of membrane products to the semiconductor, power, pharmaceutical, food and beverage, and photographic markets.

The objective of the collaboration is to incorporate the unique and patented technology, Aquaporin Inside™ - capable of extracting and purifying water from all other compounds - into Membrana’s high-performance contactor modules ending up with a final, highly competitive product. Together the parties expect to be able to provide composite membrane products designed for any particular application.

Furthermore, the cooperation has been consolidated with a two-year grant from The Danish Business Innovation Fund (Fornyelsesfonden) for the project “Industrial water extraction by the use of an aquaporin membrane”. A third partner, the Singapore Membrane Technology Centre at Nanyang Technological University, will provide sparring during the co-development and test prototypes to benchmark against their scientific results. The total budget of the overall project is DKK 18,386,928 (EUR 2,450,000) of which the fond covers DKK 7,257,500 (approximately EUR 975,000). The partners intend to commercialise their first joint product late 2013.
